There are a lot of vehicle parts in Mario Kart 8 – Deluxe. No wonder, because the game also offers the most characters of the series and many vehicle parts are based on the different drivers. We’ll give you an overview of which karts, tires and gliders you can unlock in the game. Just click on the image gallery below! The deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 has been reworked so that you no longer have to unlock the drivers – except for Gold Mario. You don’t have to fear the customization when it comes to the vehicle parts. While there are a lot of karts available to you from the start, you’ll have to unlock the rest as usual.

Unlock all car parts

You can unlock new car parts by collecting coins in races. The coin counter can show you a maximum of 10 coins per race – even if you collect more, only ten will be counted. For every 30 coins you collect, you will be rewarded with a new randomly selected vehicle part.. Once you’ve collected 450 coins, the requirement is raised to 50 coins. On Wii U, you’ll need 50 coins from the start, and later (starting at 1,000 coins) it goes up in increments of 100. You’ll need to customize your vehicle: Choose kart, tires and glider according to your preferences. The best method to quickly collect coins in the Wii U version is multiplayer.. If you play as a foursome, you can get 40 coins per race. Set your own rules and race against light CPUs and without items. If you are skilled in Mario Kart 8, you can race 200cc: Since you’ll be going the fastest here, you’ll also be able to collect coins the fastest. You guessed it: This method doesn’t work in the Deluxe version! Even if you are racing with four players, only the coins of player 1 will be counted. The next table shows you all vehicle parts that are available in the fun racer (alternatively, click through the image gallery above). The notes in the brackets refer to the Wii U versionbecause some parts are not included or the purchase of a DLC is required.

However, it is somewhat difficult to get the golden vehicle parts. In the following list you can see the conditions that have to be fulfilled to unlock them.

  • Gold Kart: Complete all the mirror cups and always get at least one star. To get a star, you must score 54 points (First twice and Second twice).
  • Gold Tire: Beat all Nintendo Developer Spirits in Time Trial.
  • Gold Glider: Collect 5,000 coins. If you own the Wii U version, you even have to collect 10,000 coins.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Unlockable characters, courses and modes

Below is a listing of all the items you can unlock in Mario Kart 8 on the Switch and Wii U, and what you need to do to get them.

  • Characters: Aside from Gold Mario, which you’ll learn more about below, all characters are unlocked from the start on the Switch version. The Wii U version is a bit different, unlocking a random character for each cup won. The exception to this are DLC characters that are already available.
  • Race tracks: Here, it’s similar to the characters. On the Switch version, the tracks are unlocked from the start, while on the Wii U version they have to be unlocked gradually by completing the previous tracks.
  • Race Modes: On the Switch, all modes are automatically unlocked. On the Wii U, mirror mode is only available after completing all cups in the 150 cc displacement class. The 200 cc displacement class, meanwhile, is available as part of a free game update.
  • Kart parts: On both platforms, all kart parts – whether bodywork, tires, or gliders – are unlocked with the help of coins. These are distributed on the race tracks and can be collected by driving over/through them. For every 30 coins collected, a random part is unlocked on the Switch version. Upon reaching the 500-coin milestone, the amount to unlock increases to 50 coins. On the Wii U, it’s 50 coins per part from the start, increasing to 100 coins upon reaching the 1,000-coin milestone. The coins are not used up when unlocking parts and remain with you. The exception to the Wii U’s random drops is when DLC parts are automatically available upon purchase. On the Switch, DLC parts (including the Mercedes DLC) are already part of the list. Here’s what you can unlock on the Switch: – 23 karts (including the Switch’s new Koopa Clown) – 17 motorcycles (including the two new Splatoon vehicles Inkstriker and Splat Buggy) – 21 tires – 14 gliders.

By the way, to match the golden Mario, there are also three golden kart parts that you can use to screw together an equally sparkly vehicle. Below you’ll find out what you need to do to get them. Get the golden Mario.

Get Gold Mario in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Most racers have probably already completed their laps with the metal Mario, but what about the gold Mario? We’ll tell you what you need to do to get the precious metal skin. We’ll also give you a few tips to help you improve your chances. The requirements for the Gold Mario are quite simple: You only have to win the gold trophy in all cups in the 200 cc class. That’s it. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done – after all, it means winning in the fastest and most difficult race variant to date. To do so, you’ll have to be a drifting pro, you can’t afford to make any mistakes, and you should know all the shortcuts. Not to mention that your opponents will sabotage you wherever possible. So here are a few tips: Let’s start with the most basic. First, familiarize yourself with the tracks. So drive a few races in the 150 cc class, then you’ll get a first feeling of what’s in store for you. Memorize the difficult sections and problematic corners and try to find appropriate maneuvers such as drifts to get through them quickly and safely. When drifting, make sure to drive from the outside to the inside as much as possible. Drifts can also be used to activate a new boost level that can give you a good advantage. To do this, you have to countersteer at least three times in longer turns. A successful drift boost can be recognized by the purple sparks that your wheels then spray. To reach the first place in a race is not that difficult. Defending it against the other drivers until the end is a completely different matter. So obstruct your pursuers with banana peels, green tanks and so on. It’s almost more important that you know how to fend off attacks with blue tanks. After all, once you’ve worked your way up to pole position, your opponents will often target you with them.

Unlock Gold Kart, Gold Hoops, and Gold Gliders

On both the Switch and the Wii U, there are also correspondingly sparkling parts for a gold kart to go with Gold Mario. Of course, you’ll have to earn the parts first by completing some difficult challenges. The following parts are available:

  • Gold Kart: For the kart, you’ll need to finish with a 1-star rating on every track in both the 150 cc class and the Mirror Cup.
  • Gold Tires: For the Tires, you must defeat all developer spirits of all tracks in Time Trial mode and 150-cm³ class.
  • Gold Glider: The Glider is probably the most time-consuming, as you’ll need to collect 10,000 coins for it.
