Deactivate or delete Facebook account: What’s the difference?

Deactivating your Facebook account does not mean that you remove your account with all its data from the network forever. How to deactivate your Facebook account

Deactivating your Facebook profile is not difficult, however, as with all settings of the famous social network, you have to maneuver through the convoluted menu jungle. To help you navigate, we’ve summarized how to deactivate your Facebook account on the PC and in the app. Tip: If there could be problems with your account due to deactivation, Facebook will alert you during the deactivation process. Deactivate Facebook account via PC browser

  1. Open Facebook in a new tab and log in.
  2. In the upper right corner click on the “Down arrow” icon.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select the item “Settings and privacy from.

  6. Now click on “Deactivation and deletion”..

Deactivate Facebook account via the app (smartphone & tablet)

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap on the Menu icon (≡) at the top right.
  2. Swipe down and open “Settings and Privacy”.
  3. Now tap again on “Settings”.
  4. At “Account settings” you will directly find the first menu item “Personal Information”tap on it.
  5. Now select the last item “Manage account on.
  6. Now tap on the somewhat inconspicuous looking link “Deactivate (bottom right).
  7. Select a reason for the deactivationswipe down and tap on the “Next” button.
  8. Swipe to the menu item “Reactivate your account” and selects from the dropdown menu the option “Do not reactivate automatically” and and tap on the “Next button”.
  9. Now you can set whether you want to continue receiving emails from Facebook and using Messenger.
  10. Finally, tap on the Deactivate my account” buttonbutton to close your Facebook profile.

Reactivate Facebook account

As explained above, deactivating your Facebook profile does not mean that your profile has been deleted, you can reactivate it at any time. To do so, simply log back into Facebook with your login details. The Facebook account will then be reactivated automatically.
