## What is the IF-AND function?

The IF-AND-FUNCTION in Excel is composed of the IF-function and the AND-function. The latter is used to check values for correctness. You define the conditions that a value must meet in order to be displayed as true in the respective formula. If you combine the AND function with the IF function, you initiate actions that Excel should perform depending on the result. For this reason, the Excel IF AND combination is an easy way to check your data for multiple criteria and get a quick overview. In your structure, the IF-AND function looks like this:

Imagine that you want to check the values in a collection of data for conditions A and B. Only if bothof these conditions are true, the result C should be thrown out, otherwise the result D. In the above formula, the element “something is TRUE” thus corresponds to condition A and “something else is TRUE” to condition B. The “then_value” is result C and the “else_value” corresponds to result D. Note If only one of the two conditions must be met for result C, use the IF-OR function. ## Excel IF-AND formula: Practical Example

In our practical example, we use an Excel spreadsheet with five incoming orders. Specified is their amount in Euro and whether they are from new customers (value “yes”) or existing customers (value “no”). In an additional column we want to know whether the respective order is linked to a discount or not: The basic goal in this Excel example: To find out which orders receive a discount New customers receive a discount if their order at least 50,00 € or more. Existing customers, on the other hand, have to pay the full price. So for a reduced price there are two conditions to fulfill. Now, to use Excel IF-AND to find out which orders receive a discount, click on cell D2 and paste the following formula into the edit bar:

After you confirm the formula with the Enter key, a response to your query is automatically ejected in D2: Using the combination of IF and AND, Excel indicates which order will receive a discount. To get an answer in the cells from D3 to D6 as well, now drag the green frame to the last row to be filled in. ## Excel: Combine IF-AND function

The individual Excel functions have the advantage that they can be combined with each other if necessary. This gives you the opportunity to query more complex issues.
